The recent CES event in Las Vegas, had ASUS defining a new benchmark for the highest amount of RAM ever on a smartphone. The Taiwanese tech giant introduced the ASUS ZenFone 2, a phone that packs 4GB of RAM. At present, only a few smartphones in the market offer 3GB of RAM like the Huawei Honor 6, OnePlus One, Lenovo Vibe Z2 Pro, and the LG G3.
Such a high amount of RAM means, better multitasking, and a seamless experience with high-end apps and games. The ASUS ZenFone 2 will certainly be a great choice for power hungry users. However, RAM is just one aspect of the overall configuration. Here, we take a quick look on what else the new ZenFone has to offer.
Display and design
The ASUS ZenFone 2 flaunts a 5.5-inch full-HD (1,080 x 1,920 pixels) IPS display that has a 178-degree wide viewing angles. For protection against scratches, the screen is covered by a layer of Corning Gorilla Glass 3. It comes with an ergonomic design. Encased in a premium looking curved case with ultra-thin edges and an impressive screen-to-body ratio, the ZenFone 2 is undoubtedly a looker. Configuration and OS
The ZenFone 2 is also one of the first devices to be fuelled by a 64-bit Intel Atom Z3580 processor. The processor is clocked at 2.3GHz, and in combination with 4GB RAM, enables the device to deliver 7x faster gaming performance in comparison to its predecessor.ASUS is also offering a lower-featured edition that comes with 64-bit 1.8GHz Atom Z 3560 SoC, coupled with 2GB of RAM. It will be available in 16GB, 32GB, and 64GB variants, all models mated with a microSD card slot. The smartphone runs on Android 5.0 Lollipop with ASUS ZenUI, which brings an array new features like ZenMotion, SnapView, Trend Micro Security and ZenUI Instant Updates in order to enhance usability and security.
Camera
The ZenFone 2 sports a 13MP auto focus primary camera that offers f/2.0 aperture with 5-element lens, and dual-color LED flash. The device houses a 5MP front-facing snapper with 85-degree wide-angle lens for selfie-lovers. The camera app of the phone is equipped with a handful of improvement tools like low light mode, HDR, beautification mode, zero shutter lag, and more.Connectivity and Battery
The ASUS ZenFone 2 is loaded with most of the connectivity options available. The dual-SIM smartphone supports the latest-gen Wi-Fi ac standard, 4G LTE with support for Indian bands, Near Field Communication (NFC), Bluetooth, and USB OTG.The device is backed by a 3,000mAh battery, which as per the vendor can recharge up to 60 percent under 40 minutes.
The ASUS ZenFone 2 looks like a promising device from every angle - offering a large screen with FHD resolution, a 13MP camera, high-end performance with a 64-bit processor along with 4GB of RAM. The company has announced to price base model at $199, while the pricing of other models will be announced soon. If it prices the higher-specced variant competitively, the ZenFone 2 will certainly a device to look out for.
