John Zakos Demonstrates The Potential Of AI Chatbots

With his TEDx talk, John Zakos explains the various ways conversational humanized interaction chatbots can change our current perception on use of devices, gradually transforming them from simple button interactions to actually talking to them.

Is there a way to make computers and machines more humanised? According to John (Yannis) Zakos the answer is yes. Personality and human form are bestowed upon computers through the use of artificial intelligence, like the virtual person technology developed by Zakos.

In his TEDx talk (embedded below) he explains the various ways conversational humanized interaction alters our current perception on use of devices, gradually transformed from simply clicking a button to actually talking to them.  The demo is not 100% smooth, but it does outline the potential of the software beyond what is currently available with Siri or Evi.

Zakos is a highly creative Greek-Australian computer scientist who believes that the essence of creativity is based on the notion that we ultimately all have the freedom and the power to create our own reality and explore it through our own thoughts. Maybe that is why he created his first artificial intelligence chat robot when he was only 14 years old. Since then his fresh vision for interactive, humanized computing has resulted in world-leading innovation.

A technologist with an entrepreneurial drive, his career contributions range from research through to strategic business development, leading the commercialization of emerging technologies in Asia-Pacific, Europe and North America.

Co-founding MyCyberTwin in 2005, the company has become recognized as a world leader in delivering virtual human solutions.  Check out the demonstration of the banking chat bot below. Zakos thrives on seeing new ideas in the research lab, make it into the "real world" as main stream applications that have a positive impact on society.

There is no word yet on how close MyCyberTwin's chatbots are to beating the Turing Test.  The company has sponsored a Turing Test contest to help advance their artificial intelligence work.

Holding a PhD in Artificial Intelligence, Dr Zakos has worked on cutting-edge technologies at the IBM Research Lab at Tokyo, Japan, while he is also a Research Fellow at Griffith University, Australia.

Wholeheartedly, he agrees with Einstein that “imagination is more powerful than knowledge”.
