Robotics was once the stuff of science fiction, but the field has evolved to be an important part of many industries, including medicine, mining, manufacturing and science. The field will continue to grow as the use of robotics and artificial intelligence expands to fill the growing needs of modern society. Interested students should look into these top schools for cutting edge robotics programs:
1 - Massachusetts Institute of Technology
A leader in technological development for over 100 years, MIT continues its reputation with cutting edge robotics training for the future. With degrees in mechanical engineering, computer technology and robotics, the school offers some of the most forward-looking training in the world, working on “humanoid” robotics that can simulate human interactions while doing common tasks. Research into future uses of robotics has been a part of the MIT philosophy for decades. MIT’s Field & Space Robotics Laboratory is recognized as one of the most important research facilities in the nation.2 – University of California, Berkeley
Another innovator in the robotics and artificial intelligence field is UC Berkeley. The school is the host of a Biomimetic Millisystems Lab, Lab for Automation Science and Engineering, Robot Learning Group, Tele-Immersion Lab for Automation Science and Engineering, an Embedded Humans OMR MURI and a number of other programs, many of which are interdisciplinary studies of the use of robot systems in medicine, industry and scientific research.Related articles |
3 – Stanford University
Stanford’s computer science and robotics research programs are developing many of the cutting edge uses for robots in industry, science and medicine. Their work in developing robots that accurately mimic human movement will help to make robots a functioning part of society in the years to come. The Stanford Artificial Intelligence Laboratory was founded in 1962, and since that time, has remained one of the premier education and research facilities in the world. Their research in biomechanics, human/robot interaction, robot control and teleoperation is bringing innovation to the field of robotics in many areas of industry.
4 – Johns Hopkins University
An innovator in medical research, Johns Hopkins University also provides cutting edge robotics training at its Whiting School of Engineering. Degree programs in nanobiology, bioengineering and medical robotics are among the top offerings in the country. The school, along with Hudson Robotics, Inc., has recently been awarded a National Institutes of Health grant to do a live study on zebrafish, which are often used in vertebrate development and gene function studies. The use of robotics in biological study is a growing field that will be instrumental in the complex gene therapies of the future.5 – Georgia Tech
Georgia Tech’s Institute for Robotics and Intelligent Machines is another school that is making significant progress toward preparing highly trained robotics professionals for the tasks of the future. The school offers programs up to a PhD in Robotics. Its excellence in research in robotics and artificial intelligence has drawn attention from a number of prominent organizations. The school is also involved in bringing robotics education to schoolchildren to promote interest in these expanding areas of science and technology.Students with degrees in computer technology and robotics will find a number of opportunities in the future.
