In Neill Blomkamp's next sci-fi film, Chappie, gangsters kidnap an intelligent robot, voiced by Sharlto Copley, and program it to do their bidding.

Robots have definitely taken over the big screen in the last few months. With Automata and Ex Machina already on their way, now, Neill Blomkamp, the director of District 9 and Elysium is back with another android-based film, which stars Hugh Jackman and Dev Patel.

Blomkamp mainstay Sharlto Copley provides the motion capture for the self-titled robot, Chappie.

Every child comes into the world full of promise, and none more so than Chappie: he is gifted, special, a prodigy. Like any child, Chappie will come under the influence of his surroundings - some good, some bad - and he will rely on his heart and soul to find his way in the world and become his own man.

There is one thing though that makes Chappie different from anyone else: he is a robot.

After being kidnapped by two criminals played by Yo-Landi Vi$$er and Ninja of the South African rave-rap act Die Antwoord,during birth, Chappie becomes the adopted son in a strange and dysfunctional family. Chappie is preternaturally gifted, one of a kind, a prodigy.
