3D Printing
3D printing start-up BigRep hopes to open the gateway to a new dimension of 3D printing with the unveiling of the BigRep ONE 3D printer with a build volume of 1.3m3. |
With its huge build volume, BigRep hopes to open the gateway to a new dimension of 3D printing and 3D manufacturing and is set to transform the 3D printing and manufacturing business.
Typical 3D printers today are designed for consumer use, with generally small print areas. This is fine for small objects, such as, say, utensils, ornaments, toys and parts, but anything a little bigger is going to require multiple prints and assembly.
Now, the open-source BigRep One allows for a build volume of 1147 x 1000 x 1188 millimetres (45 x 39 x 47 inches) — big enough to print furniture and other human-scale objects.

The 3D printer was developed by Berlin-based designers Lukas Oehmigen and Marcel Tasler, and has been unveiled at the 3D PrintShow in New York, and will start shipping to customers in March or April. The suggested price is US$39,000.
