Robotic Owl Designed To Help Out Busy Parents

According to Dutch start-up Wiki WorkX, parents need a product that actively occupies their children, that delights and encourages them while supporting their cognitive development. That’s why they introducing the ixi-play robot.

A new interactive robotic owl called ixi-play may soon both entertain and educate your children.

Designed by Dutch tech start-up WittyWorX, ixi-play features a multitouch sensor on top of its head, dual microphones, dual video displays (the owl's animated eyes), a 720p video camera, a dual core ARM Cortex A9 processor, plus a tweeter and woofer that allow it to talk.

When it interacts with children, the ixi-play robot turns it's head and wiggles it's body.

ixi-play runs on the Android 4.2 Jelly Bean operating system, has 1 GB of internal memory (which is expandable via an SD card slot), and is both Wi-Fi and USB-enabled.

Apps are already available or in the works, for playing games with ixi-play. These games involve technologies such as face, color and voice recognition, and are designed to boost the player's development in areas such as math, language-learning, spatial awareness and motor skills.

Unlike so many other products for kids, your child might not outgrow ixi-play too fast.  According to WittyWorX:

Children learn fast, especially in their first years. We know how hard it is to keep them interested in any plaything for a significant amount of time. That’s why ixi-play is built to accept upgrades as your child grows. Download and install new apps and games available on an app store. The games will have adaptive difficulty levels to keep pace with your children's age and skills, keeping them happy and challenged. 

ixi-play is also able to be used as a baby monitor. Using its camera, microphones and Wi-Fi, parents can check in on their young children with their iOS or Android mobile device.

WittyWorX is now in the process of crowd-funding the commercial development of ixi-play, and is taking pre-orders. A payment of US$299 will put you on the list to get one, when and if shipments begin late next year.
