3D Printing
| 3D printing is definitely exploding. As applications for the technology spread, guest writer Bridget Sandorford explores some of the most awesome things made with 3D printing. |
3D printers are becoming more affordable, helping to bring the technology to more people. The world’s first 3D pen – the 3Doodler – is the most affordable option at $99. While manufacturers most often use 3D printers to make inexpensive toys and other goods, and hobbyists use it to create models and other art, there are actually many more advanced and even profound uses for the technology.
Here are some of the coolest creations made with 3D printing to show you just how far the technology can go:
A New Jaw Bone
A working lower jaw was created from a 3D printer in June of last year in the Netherlands. The jaw bone is finished with a bioceramic coating. The procedure is said to bring down costs and make recovery time faster. Other parts such as hip bones are also being created with 3D printers.
Guitars
Your Baby
High Heels
Every fashionista aspires to wear haute couture. Well, there’s nothing more haute couture than wearing a one-of-a-kind item. These high heels are custom made with a 3D printer. We’re not sure how comfortable shoes are that are made of plastic, but many have suffered in the name of fashion.

We’re sure that as the technology for 3D printing grows, we’ll start to see even more innovative and amazing uses for it. Other industries are also using the technology to create working guns, intricate sculptures and medical devices. In the future, it is predicted that it can be used to create buildings and even cars.
