 Memory
Actress Marilu Henner is also known for her superior memory.  Having the condition, Highly Superior Autobiographical Memory, Henner can recall nearly every event of her life in vivid detail.  Now Henner wants to share her experiences and abilities with her new book, Total Memory Makeover.
Marilu Henner is probably best known as an actress for her roles on TV's Taxi and numerous roles on Broadway. Henner's choice to become an actress may have been due to her natural abilities -- she can remember almost anything. Henner has been featured on a “60 Minutes” episode for her superior memory capabilities.

Having the condition Hyperthymesia – also called Highly Superior Autobiographical Memory (HSAM) – Henner is able to recall specific details, and specific events, from nearly every day of her life.

Henner says her gift is not just a parlor trick --to her it is important and defines her.

“It’s that defense against meaninglessness.  I’m not just occupying time.  There’s some significance to what I’m doing and how I’m living my life.”

She said understanding your past is the best way to prepare for the future.

Henner now believes that everyone can tap into their memory abilities and she wants to show you how with her new book, Total Memory Makeover: Uncover Your Past, Take Charge of Your Future.

Total Memory Makeover helps you develop the ability to remember more of your past, to recall it more clearly, and most of all, to understand your memories as a blueprint for your future.

Unlike other memory books, Total Memory Makeover does not use mnemonic devices or unusual strategies to remember lists, definitions, names, or numbers.

Using Henner's experience and knowledge of HSAM, she provides exercises and techniques to help readers:
  • · Stop turning painful memories into emotional baggage
  • · Discover your personal memory Track
  • · Unlock repressed memories that are holding you back
  • · Understand the four types of memory retrieval—Horizontal, Vertical, Mushrooming, and Sporadic—and determine which works best for you
  • · Recall memories faster and stop them from fading
  • · Teach your kids to have great memories
  • · Turn your newfound memories into a treasure map to a successful future
While most of us may prefer to keep the unhappy times buried in the past, Marilu has discovered that only by remembering what happened then can we change our lives for a better now. The past is prelude to the future. But how much of our lives do most of us really remember? And what would our memories tell us if they could?  It’s not about using mnemonic devices or unusual strategies to remember lists, definitions, names, or numbers.
