The Near Future of iGaming

Gaming

When it comes to growth and development, few industries can match iGaming, which continues to grow at a rapid rate around the globe. In fact, according to a report released by Technavio, the US iGaming market alone is going to expand by an annual rate of 51% between now and 2020.

As the interest in iGaming continues to progress and investors become more involved, we are sure to see an array of technological advancements enter the iGaming arena. After all, if other leisure media such as video games and movies are using modern technology and innovative ideas to keep their customers engaged, so too will iGaming.

So, just what does the near future of iGaming entail? What sort of technology can we expect to be applied to our favourite online casinos? Here are just some that we predict will be showing up at some point over the next few years.

Virtual Reality (VR) & Augmented Reality (AR)

Following the success of Pokémon Go, augmented reality and virtual reality alike are really beginning to flourish. Not only do we have new headsets for video and mobile gaming such as the Oculus Rift and HTC Vive already on the market, but using VR technology during your Friday night poker game could become a reality sooner than you think, according to online casino bgo. Jeffrey Lande of Lucky VR wrote an exclusive piece for bgo explaining that VR online poker is sure to be particularly successful as it “combines all the social and fun aspects of a live poker game with the convenience of playing online.” Plus, there’s nothing to say the VR will only be available within the games. Imagine being able to create your very own, personal VR avatar and interacting with players in social areas between games. That, we hope, is where VR in iGaming is headed.

Mobile Casinos & Apps

There is no denying that mobile phones have become increasingly popular over the last few decades, and since well over 68% of US adults now own smartphones there’s no surprise that iGaming is really focusing on mobile friendly platforms. Most online casinos that have already created established desktop-based sites like bgo and Australia’s Crazy Vegas are already creating solid mobile presences so that users can play on the go. There is no doubt that these platforms are sure to evolve alongside the phone’s themselves so we are extremely excited to see these sites as they progress. Meanwhile, other sites like mFortune are taking the initiative and creating separate apps for each of their games including slots, poker and bingo. As these apps are far more convenient and user-friendly than most mobile websites, there’s no doubt that other casinos and iGaming developers will soon begin developing their own apps.

So, will you be partaking in virtual reality poker when it becomes a common pastime? You might even be able to combine it with an app designed specifically by your favourite online casino so you won’t use up on your data or phone battery. These are just two of the possible near future trends that we hope to see in the next couple of year, so hurry up iGaming operators and developers!
