ince the original launch of the Raspberry Pi Model B, back in 2012, the non-profit organization behind the device has done an enormous amount of software work to get the best out of the technology. As with any computer system though, there comes a point when the CPU performance and memory need to be upgraded.
"Our challenge was to figure out how to get this without throwing away our investment in the platform or spoiling all those projects and tutorials which rely on the precise details of the Raspberry Pi hardware," states Raspberry Pi Founder Eben Upton on the Raspberry Pi Blog.

"For the last six months we’ve been working closely with Microsoft to bring the forthcoming Windows 10 to Raspberry Pi 2," writes Upton. "Microsoft will have much more to share over the coming months. The Raspberry Pi 2-compatible version of Windows 10 will be available free of charge to makers."
The Raspberry Pi 2 has an identical form factor to the previous (Pi 1) Model B+ and has complete compatibility with Raspberry Pi 1.
Raspberry Pi 2 Model B is intended for use in schools as it offers more flexibility for learners than the leaner (Pi 1) Model A+, which is more useful for embedded projects and projects which require very low power.
In the video below from the BBC, Upton talks about the latest model:
