In order to counter Invisible Children's KONY 2012 movement, we are proposing one of our own, FONY 2012. The concept is to make a parody of the KONY 2012 campaign, and encourage people to THINK FOR YOURSELF, and DON'T BE A SHEEP. We encourage our readers to spread the message.

The KONY 2012 movement started by the organization, Invisible Children has been a target for 33rd Square.  Despite our efforts, there has been a noticeable number  of KONY 2012-related vandalism and posting around the world.

To reiterate, our position is not supportive of the violent Ugandan warlord, Joseph Kony, but it is against the emotional manipulation by the Invisible Children group for its own commercial means and to their ends of promoting American military action in Africa.

The aim of the campaign is to bring attention to Joseph Kony. Kony heads the Lord’s Resistance Army, he operates in Uganda, Sudan, The Central African Republic and The Democratic republic of Congo, and has reportedly been responsible for the displacement of 2 million people, and the abduction of 66,000 children to fight in his child army.

For many years he has been committing the most vile crimes against humanity, his army have abducted children, used girls as sex slaves, and boys as Child soldiers, he really is an evil man, and should be stopped--by local police and domestic military forces.

We have documented how minerals such as coltan, copper and oil are the real reason behind a move to manipulate sentiment towards a new colonization of Africa.

Well meaning people continue to get sucked into the Invisible Children campaign, and it has undoubtedly brought awareness to the atrocities of Joseph Kony, but sending US troops in is not the solution. Kony can be starved, as well as those who finance and arm him. Perhaps the answers to those questions do not want to be made public. 

33rd Square continues to urge our readers to explore the KONY 2012 campaign and determine for themselves the possible reasons for it before deciding to purchase their merchandise and support their organization.

Now, in an effort to counter Invisible Children's movement, we are proposing one of our own, FONY 2012.    The concept is to make a parody of the KONY 2012 campaign, and encourage people to THINK FOR YOURSELF, and DON'T BE A SHEEP.

Just like invisible children we are going to provide artwork and merchandise and an online store.  We will not profit from the sales of these goods.  We will provide more information and resources as the campaign ramps up.  Once we have materials in place we will provide links to more resources.
