Handwriting Recognition Now Available in Ebook Apps

Wednesday, February 15, 2012

Puzzle-game startup Puzzazz is demonstrating software that lets users fill in text boxes by writing naturally on the screen with their finger, as opposed to tapping at a tiny on-screen keyboard. Seeing it in action in the video below, it seems to work surprisingly well — it certainly seems to recognize numbers without too much trouble. The natural interface recognizes a wide variety of handwriting styles without requiring special writing or training by the user, delivering high-quality recognition never before seen in a device under $100.
The exclusive TouchWrite technology recognizes your handwriting, so you can write in numbers on the screen. Just use your finger -- like you were writing in the sand -- and your number will appear in the square. You can also tap in a square to enter notes.
According to Puzzazz, every one of their ebooks is filled with some of the best puzzles you'll find anywhere. Every puzzle has been carefully crafted, so they're more fun to solve than randomly generated games. And each is calibrated to your chosen difficulty level.

Speaking to GeekWire, Puzzazz founder Roy Leban declined to comment on whether he was thinking of persuading Amazon to make it a basic feature of the device.

And Puzzazz ebooks also work on earlier readers without touch screens, so you can relax and solve your favorite puzzles, whichever device you have
