First it axed its popular point-and-shoot Flip video camera, and now Cisco is chopping its less popular Umi, its consumer home video conferencing solution introduced in October 2010. When it was launched, Umi provided home users with full HD videoconferencing hardware for US$600 (plus $10/month service fees), but it never enjoyed widespread adoption.
In early 2011, Cisco launched a $400 version supporting only 720p high-definition video, but it was not very successful either. With the discontinuation of Umi and other products in 2011, including the Flip video camera, it appears that Cisco may be re-focusing its efforts on enterprise customers.
