5 Tech Skills You Should Learn

If you want to get ahead in today's world, you need to keep up with technology. Everything is going to the internet today, and with digital media you have the power to control your own destiny.

Here are five tech skills you should learn for a better future:

1. Networking

Every single device that is connected to the internet involves networking of some kind. There is the device and the router which everything is connected to. If you work in an office then all of your devices are connected to the central router.

Networking is crucial. It helps devices communicate better with each other for transferring files. It also has a security layer that can be vulnerable to attacks. Cyber criminals don't just focus on large companies anymore.

In this day and age, every business stores valuable information online and on their networks. If criminals access this, they can blackmail you or simply steal the financial information and use someone's credit cards. Furthermore, they might even get your company's banking information and cause financial ruin. Or they could steal your customer list and sell it to the highest bidder. They might also steal your secrets that make your company so profitable.

If you are going to learn networking, then start with network monitoring tools. These allow you to see the traffic flow of different devices. When you are used to analyzing this traffic you can get a job as a penetration tester or alert responder. This means you will watch out for threats and respond to protect the company's data in the event of a network breach.

What is web development? It is the art and science of creating software that runs websites and apps online. Every time you log onto the internet you are using the product of a web developer who made the code work the right way.

The most basic part of web development is HTML. This is the markup language that creates categories on the screen: text, images, paragraphs, videos, buttons, and more. It is actually quite simple to learn and it helps you edit your web experience more easily.

Then there is CSS. This is a step further than basic HTML. This is where more advanced design aspects come into play. Instead of just a white background and black text, you can introduce different colors, sizes, and textures into web objects. This is how web 2.0 really took off. It became a design-rich environment that people enjoy using.

You can also get more interactive with JavaScript. However, it is not necessary at first. Start with the basics above and you will go along way in making progress in your web development skills.

3. Social Media Analytics

Knowing how to judge conversion rates of social campaigns is a crucial skill. If you can do this, you will be able to cut your losses and increase profits by getting more sales with less investment. To take it a step further, graph the data points of your analytics:

4. Data Graphing

Using the language R, you can learn to graph statistical data sets. This is useful in all industries, from social media to pharmacies. You can determine what the best course of action is based on an intuitive understanding of the information at hand.

5. Predictive Analytics and Business Intelligence

Wouldn't it be great to be able to predict the future? Luckily, you can. If you use predictive analytics you can look at past data and apply BI algorithms. This will help you glean insights as to which campaigns are likely to succeed and how to deploy your business assets to accomplish goals and meet metrics.

Long gone are the days where only a few people had to be tech savvy. Today, even if you don't consider yourself a tech person, you need to learn some skills. The skills above will get you a great head start on the competition and help you create the future of your choice.
