A new infographic shows that car makers and new entrants are looking to bring about big changes to the world of transportation. From self driving cars, to biometric-enabled entry for vehicles, the changes coming our way are substantial.


As technology progresses, one of the fields receiving a lot of, some might argue, overdue attention is the automotive industry.

As the infographic below explores, car makers and new entrants are exploring ways that transportation may be very different than today.  For instance, Google plans to make driver less cars with no steering wheels or pedals available to the public by 2020 and the Ford Motor Company has already been granted a patent for a biometric device that uses fingerprints, retinal scans, and voice recognition to gain entry to and start a vehicle.

Even General Motors plans to give all of its future vehicles a driver override system that will be able to apply the brakes if needed, regardless of what the driver is doing.

Time will only tell, but the automotive world seems poised to be headed for big changes.
