With almost all big tech companies working on wearable technology, it's only a matter of time before it becomes an integral part of our lives. Smartwatches, probably the most popular type of wearable device nowadays, are touted as the next big thing in personal technology, just like the smartphone was more than a decade ago.
"The app perfectly lines up with the concept of smart watches, lets the user access critical information about the car and allows managing it quickly without wasting time on taking out and unlocking the phone." |
The latest project regarding integration between smartwatches and cars joins two of the biggest members of today's tech elite together – Tesla Motors and Apple. The software development company Eleks has created an app that will connect the upcoming Apple Watch and Tesla cars, allowing Model S owners to control their vehicles remotely from their wrists.
The Apple Watch will be released in April, with a heavy price tag of $349, and it could be of great use to those who already own a Tesla car or intend to buy one in the future. The Tesla app for Apple Watch has several features that allow car owners to control some of their car's basic functions, such as the headlights, the air condition system, and the doors. So, by downloading the Tesla app, Model S owners will be able to lock and unlock their cars' doors, turn the headlights on and off, honk the horn, and adjust the temperature inside the car, by swiping your fingers across the touchscreen on your smartwatch.

Although the app is still only a concept, it is safe to say that it will be commercially available by the time the Apple Watch hits stores, and when it does, it will probably offer many more features, which might include remote engine start and stop, or roadside assistance calls, and they might even be voice activated.
It will surely be of great help to Model S owners, and it basically brings together two of the most popular brands, Apple and Tesla, which have more or less the same target audience – the rich and tech-savvy consumers that like having expensive and exclusive products that only a selected group of people can afford to buy.
