With post-holiday sales running, guest writer Tricia Borren offers up ways to shop for new technology on a budget and get bargain deals. |
Shopping for the latest tech gadgets is typically an exhilarating experience, but it can also be very expensive. For shoppers on a budget, getting their hands on new electronics does not mean that they have to break the bank. Here are six ways to get new tech items at a bargain:
1 – Timing Your Purchases
When it comes to tech gadgets, retailers have a certain window of opportunity to get the most out of new items. This usually happens during the first few days when a new device hits the market. A few months after a new tech product is launched, demand winds down and retailers respond accordingly by applying deep discounts. Many new tech items are sold at their most expensive price in the first three months after they arrived at store shelves.2 – Branding Is Not Everything
Tech shoppers often end up paying more for the brand than they should. This is often the case with new televisions; shoppers should take a close look at brands that are not as well-known. In many cases, similar performance can be achieved at a much lower price.3 – Open-box and Floor Models

4 – Comparison Shop
Some new gadgets tend to have considerable marketing campaigns behind them, which often makes them more expensive than they should be. Shoppers should thoroughly weigh their options instead of falling for fancy advertising schemes. Affordable microscopes, for example, are easily found by shoppers who do a little online research instead of rushing out to get the latest fancy model, which is often a more expensive version of an existing product.5 – Online Bidding Platforms
Savvy shoppers can take advantage of online bidding sites to get popular electronics and new tech items at prices that are often discounted by more than 50 percent. These websites, which have an auction-style approach to shopping, charge a small fee for the right to place a bid. When new items hit the auction block, however, bidding gets very competitive.6 – Closeouts and Inventory Clearance Sales
Technology moves at a very fast pace. For this reason, retailers often hold special clearance sales to make room for new items. Smart shoppers are always on the lookout for these opportunities to get new tech items.By Tricia Borren | Subscribe to 33rd Square |
