Ben Goertzel Outlines Artificial General Intelligence

In a recent interview with Critical Thought TV's Stuart Mason Dambrot, AI researcher, Ben Goertzel explained the concept of artificial general intelligence (AGI), and some of the profound potential  consequences of the technology.

Dr. Ben Goertzel, a self-described Cosmist and Singularitarian, is one of the world's leading researchers in artificial general intelligence (AGI), natural language processing, cognitive science, data mining, machine learning, computational finance, bioinformatics, and virtual worlds and gaming. He has published a dozen scientific books including The Hidden Pattern, 100+ technical papers, and numerous journalistic articles.

Artificial general intelligence, or strong AI is outlined as the ability to perform "general intelligent action." AGI is associated with traits such as consciousness, sentience, sapience and self-awareness observed in living beings.

Researchers in the last few years have recognized the feasability of returning to the original goals of artificial intelligence research. Increasingly, there is a call for a transition back to confronting the more difficult issues of “human level intelligence” and more broadly artificial general intelligence (AGI), rather than just expert systems, or as Goertzel refers to such projects "narrow AI."

In this interview with Stuart Mason Dambrot for Critical Thought TV, Goertzel examines how the advent of Artificial General Intelligence is essentially inevitable, and will be incredibly difficult to control and legislate for.
