| At a recent Google Talks event, five time Hugo Award winning author Vernor Vinge, one of the most lauded science fiction writers of our era, discusses his work and concepts from it, including the concept of The Singularity which he coined. |
Vinge's 1993 essay "The Coming Technological Singularity", is one of the landmark documents influencing the Singularity movement today. In the essay he argues that the creation of superhuman artificial intelligence will mark the point at which "the human era will be ended," such that no current models of reality are sufficient to predict beyond it.

ReplyDeleteHe didn't coin the phrase, Ray Kurzweil spoke of the "singularity" in 1990 "The Age of Intelligent Machines".
Yes, but in 1983 Vinge wrote about the Singularity in an article for OMNI magazine: http://www.33rdsquare.com/2012/05/vernor-vinges-omni-magazine-piece.html .
