In a recent TEDxTalk, Carlo van de Weijer describes how the exponential growth of computer technology is impacting the automotive sector, and despite the difficulty, he offers some insights into the future of mobile transport based on accelerating change.

Predicting the future is hard. But when we are on the road, there are cars ahead of us that can see what we will see a few minutes or a few hours into our future. Carlo van de Weijer explains how by linking our increasingly smart cars together we will soon be able to plan when we will be in a traffic jam.

van de Weijer has a Masters degree in Mechanical Engineer from the University of Technology in Eindhoven and a PhD degree from Technical University in Graz. He started his career in 1990 at TNO Automotive, moved to SiemensVDO in 2001 to head the Eindhoven automotive navigation development lab.

Since 2007 he has been part of TomTom. Currently Dr. van de Weijer is VP for Intelligent Transport Systems within TomTom and part-time director of the Strategic Area Smart Mobility at Eindhoven University of Technology. He is, amongst others, member of the board of ITS Netherlands and AutomotiveNL.
