 Exponential Technologies
A detailed hour long presentation by Peter Diamandis, author of Abundance has become available online. For those of us who have not yet had a chance to attend Singularity University, it offers a glimpse at the content and ideas that students receive.
I n the lead-up to and since Peter Diamandis and Stephen Kotler released their breakthrough book, Abundance: The Future Is Better Than You Think, there have been a number of short video presentations by the authors circulating online.

Recently a detailed longer presetaton by Diamandis has become available as well.  For those of us who have not yet had a chance to attend Singularity University, it offers a glimpse at the content and ideas that students receive.

Diamandis explains how he has used an understanding of exponential technologies to springboard his ventures with the X PRIZE, Singularity University, Space Adventures and most recently, Planetary Resources.

Disruptive stresses created by exponential technology can be viewed as a threat to some, but as Diamandis suggests, they are also the sources of our greatest opportunities.

Diamandis also asks, "What drives breakthroughs?"  In his view there are four main drivers:

  1. Fear
  2. Curiosity (much weaker than fear, consider the Defence budget to the Science budget)
  3. Wealth Creation
  4. Significance

For Diamandis the role of significance led to him forming the X PRIZE. Creating a dynamic demonstration of something new was what he learned of Lindberg's Spirit of St. Louis flight, and Diamandis applied this to his own incentive prize.  The success of the Anasari X PRIZE has now led to subsequent prizes for a variety of industries.

Note - their is an additional bit at the end of this video encouraging you to purchase Abundance, but it does not detract from previous lecture material which extends over an hour.
